Urge Congress to Increase Funding for TBI Programs!

The Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education begins consideration of the FY10 funding bill today!

Over the next few days, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education will be considering a bill which will provide the funding allocation for programs authorized through the TBI Act and for NIDRR's TBI-related research programs, including TBI Model Systems of Care.

Federal funding for these important TBI programs has remained stagnant over the last several years, as Congress has not provided increases sufficient to keep up with the increasing cost of doing business. The urgent need for increased federal support for a national TBI public health infrastructure and TBI research is further heightened by the recognition of TBI as the signature wound of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The time is now to urge Members of Congress to adequately fund TBI programs!

Thanks for this link. Here is my letter-

As a nurse on a very busy Trauma/neuro ICU I am surprised to learn this is even an issue. I can't see how anyone could argue with the need for appropriating money to provide care and reeducation of anyone with a head injury. Now that so many veterans are receiving this type of injury, while defending our precious freedom, it seems even more of a no brainer. TBI survivors are completley unable to take care of their families and themselves. It is a devastating type of injury and noone recovers without help. Let's argue about something else and get this money out there for them. With modern medical treatment we are working hard to save these people. Doesn't that obligate us to provide the best research and help we are capable of to help them rejoin life in a productive way? I am not a very political person, and usually leave these things to the folks in Washington that are elected to make decisions. However, it seems to me that it's a priority to do anything we can to help our veterans recover. God Bless them all and let's make them know we are thankful for their sacrifices.
