What am I to do?

Sept. 2006 I had 7 skull fractures all around.Sevevre brain injuries that I'm having trouble with and nerve damage to my right arm.I keep getting denied for disability but, there's nothing i can do with one hand and a fractured mind.I have 2 kids to care for and I can't get help anywhere.I've been threatened with jail time if I don't start paying my daughter.I have 18 months to go before I even get a hearing. What's wrong with the system? If they're so behind maybe they should give me a job at their office doing nothing!I'm frustrated!!

Have you gotten a lawyer to find out what the holdup is for diability? Maybe you can let the juudge on the case know about your situation. Maybe call your local Brain Injury Alliance and ask them to help you. Tell them your situation and that you don't know where to begin and they can lead you in the right direction. Hope this helps and things improve.

I do have a lawyer and I hired him last August but the system has so many cases to handle that they're 13 months behind.I don't understand why people with just bipolar can get it but I've suffered a lot and can't get anything.I'm thinking about heading to Costa Rica and living as a beach bum.It wouldn't be much different except for the beach part:-)

One question: is your attorney skilled in brain injury/disability? You might check with others about your situation.

    http://www.brain-injury-online.com/tennesseebraininjuryattorney.html

That website contains a few Tennessee brain injury attorneys.

He has handled many cases in that matter, and I do trust his work.Only thing is that I grew up with him as a kid. It's kind of strange having an old friend handling my case. The problem isn't really with the lawyer,it's that they aren't in a hurry to set a date for a hearing in front of a law judge. And Vanderbilt University Medical Center of Nashville TN isn't helping anything either.I didn't have health insurance when I was in the accident.I was an innocent passenger but Geico insurance refused to pay for any treatment. After a one month stay Vanderbilt offered me a trip to the homeless shelter in Nashville and said they were done.I have received no therapy for any of it.I'm in a world of struggle!I'm now 27 gonna be 28 Sat.,living with my mom, can't provide for my kids or myself, and can't drive due to a seizure condition.I've been denied over and over but I don't understand how they think I can work without transportation,1 handed, and on 5 medications. The thought has crossed my mind once to just give up but,I think they should get the lead out and get caught up on all the cases in front of them.13 months behind is a little rediculous!

I'm going on 22 months and I called the disability office in Chattanooga and they said I will have a court date in the next 18 months.Seems like they should hire more people in their office to handle some of the work lol

hey adam, have you heard of coverTN?  the website is www.coverTN.gov if you want to check it out.  when you get to the site click on accessTN.  it's health insurance for people who can't get it any other way.  accessTN is for people who are "high risk" - people with disabilities and other medical conditions who can't get regular insurance.  it's good if you can afford the premiums.  they do offer premium assistance for some.  i'm actually doing a paper on it right now btw.  if you give them a call they can probably give you more help.  i know it doesn't help you with disability but just an idea to help you out.    :)

What has come of your situation, Adam?  Have things improved? All the messages here, are dated 9 months ago. So I was just curious if (and hoping) things have improved for you.
